OfferUp Payments FAQ

Who can use OfferUp payments?

While OfferUp Payments is in a trial period, only selected sellers can receive payments through the app. Any buyer with the latest version of the app can pay for OfferUp Payments-enabled items using the feature.

Am I required to accept payments through OfferUp?

No. It's up to you and the buyer if you want to use OfferUp Payments or have them pay with cash. If you only want to accept cash, please let the buyer know before meeting up.

Will all of my items have this feature?

All of your existing and new non-high value items will have OfferUp Payments enabled.

Is there a cost?

During the trial period, a low service fee is charged to sellers for using the payment system. Please note that OfferUp may change the service fee in the future.

How do I know I've been paid?

As soon as the buyer submits their payment, you'll receive a notification in the app. Open the notification or tap the item on the Transactions tab of the Payments screen to view the receipt. Confirm that you've received the correct amount of money before giving the buyer your item.

How do I get my money?

After the sale, you'll receive a notification asking you to provide the information needed to set up your deposit account. In most cases, we'll need your legal name, date of birth, and either a debit card or bank account information. Once your information has been verified, the money will be deposited into your account within 5 business days.

Why was I prompted for additional information?

In some cases, regulations require us to gather additional information to verify your identity, such as your address, Social Security number, or a scan of a government-issued photo ID. This is a security precaution to protect our users and their accounts. Once your information has been verified, the money will be deposited into your account within 5 business days.

How soon do I need to provide my information?

To receive your money as quickly as possible, you should provide your information as soon as you're notified. You must provide your information within 90 days of a sale. After 90 days, the money will be returned to the buyer.

Who processes the payments?

OfferUp has integrated with the payment processor Stripe to enable sellers to accept electronic payment methods. By using OfferUp Payments to accept electronic payments, you agree to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement, which includes the Stripe Terms of Service (collectively, the "Stripe Services Agreement").

Anything else?

If you have 200 or more transactions and sell over $20,000 worth of items in a calendar year using OfferUp Payments, you'll be prompted in the OfferUp app to provide your full Social Security number for tax reporting purposes. You will also receive a 1099-K produced by Stripe.
